White Horse Blended Scotch Whiskey / 40%/ 1.0l
- The White Horse brand was introduced in the 1880s by James Logan Mackie, then the owner of Lagavulin Distillery.
Product description
The White Horse blend debuted around 1886, blended by James Logan Mackie, then owner of Lagavulina.
The name of the whisky comes from the White Horse Inn in Edinburgh, owned by the Mackie family since the mid-17th century. However, White Horse whisky owes its fame to Peter Mackie, nephew of James Logan, who became a partner in Mackie & Co. in 1890. Mackie considered the name to be key to the success of the whisky, in addition to its high standards (the company was soon renamed White Horse Distillers). Peter Mackie died in 1924, and three years later his company was taken over by the DCL group. Today, the White Horse brand belongs to Diageo, and its annual sales amount to around 1.3 million cases. Lagavulin does not play a major role in the blend formula; today, the key components are Caol Ila, Clynelish, Glen Elgin, Linkwood and Glenlossie.
