Chivas Regal is the most popular premium blended whisky with annual sales north of 4 million cases.
The brand was introduced in 1909, sixteen years after the family tie was broken (Alexander Chivas passed away in 1893) and the company was taken over by two employees). The 18 years old expression was created in 1997 by Colin Scott, Chivas Regal master blender, when the brand was still owned by Seagram, today is part of Pernod Ricard portfolio. Strathisla malt has been a backbone of Chivas blends since the early 1950s; other key components are Longmorn, Tormore, Braeval and Glen Keith. Chivas Regal 18 years old was named the Best Blended Scotch Whisky at the 2014 International Wine & Spirits Competition.
Nose: rich, honey, toffee, milk chocolate, oranges, bananas, cherries, raisins, buttered toast, roasted nuts, hints of cedar and oak.
Taste: smooth and fruity, caramel, vanilla, honey, butterscotch, banana bread, raisins, pineapple, dash of cocoa powder and fading hints of smoke.
Finish: fairly long and soothing, with notes of sweet dried fruit, milk chocolate, honey and a touch of smoke.
