Product description
The story of Flor de Caña dates back to 1890, when an Italian entrepreneur Alfred Francisco Pellas Canessa of Genoa decided to settle down in Nicaragua and set up a rum distillery there.
The Flor de Caña distillery was erected at the foot of the tallest and most active volcano San Cristóbal. According to the manufacturer, the fertile volcanic soil and the micro-climate created by the volcano had – and still have – an enormous impact on the quality of sugarcane planted there, and consequently, on the quality of the rum. Today, Flora de Caña, a company boasting unusual environmental care, still belongs to the same family as it did when it was founded 130 years ago. The distillery uses 100% renewable energy, boasts carbon neutrality and has a Fair Trade certificate. No sugar is added in the production of the rum, and neither are any artificial ingredients. The distillation itself takes place in a modern, energy-efficient five-column distillation set, and the spirits matures in small, 180-litre oak barrels that were used only once prior to being filled with rum. Flor de Caña 12 Family Legacy is a blend of carefully selected spirits that spent full 12 years in such barrels.
