Homère Clément, physician and mayor of Le François on Martinique,in 1987 purchased the prestigious 43 hectare sugar plantation.
Domaine de L'Acajou, and pioneered Rhum Agricole, a contemporary style of pure rum made directly from fresh free-run sugarcane juice, instead of the traditional rum made from molasses. Rums of the line Clement they started producing from 1940. Clement vintage 1970 rum is a single vintage distillation and bottling, having never been blended with other crop years. Distilled in 1970, Clement vintage rum aged for 15 years in barrels of 200 liter oak barrels in the cellars of the Habitation Clément, following this process, the rum was then 'finished' in large vats for several years. Bottled in 1991 at the Habitation Clement. Numbered bottles. This exceptional Clément Vintage is illustrated by its delicate red tobacco, spice and hazelnut.
