Jack Daniel's Holiday Select whiskey is the distillery founder's wishes for Christmas.
The year 2011 marked the beginning of a new tradition at the distillery, the construction of a Christmas tree from barrels that had previously been used to age Jack Daniel's whiskey. For the first few years, the "tree" stood in the middle of Lynchburg's market, but in 2016, it was first assembled in the parking lot in front of the visitor center, near the bridge over the East Fork Mulberry Creek. The process of building the "barrel tree" takes about a week. It consists of 140 barrels weighing 115 pounds (52 kg) each and is 26 feet (8 meters) high. The final touch is decorating the tree with holiday lights, the lighting of which is the main attraction of the Christmas celebrations. Part of the festival also includes tastings of local baked goods, contests and a parade through the streets of Lynchburg. Of course, the selection of Christmas tree barrels is made by the master distiller himself, as their contents will be used for the Jack Daniel's Holiday Select edition. The one presented here is from 2011 and contains whiskey with an alcohol content of 50%.
