In August 2019 Johnnie Walker and HBO Licensing & Retail announced release of two new expressions of Johnnie Walker in honor of the enduring legacy of the HBO series Game of Thrones.
The new whiskies are inspired by the iconic and powerful houses of Westeros – House Stark and House Targaryen – and are successors to the Johnnie Walker White Walker, limited edition blend launched in 2018. “Johnnie Walker A Song of Ice and A Song of Fire perfectly capture the essence of House Stark and House Targaryen, from the bottle designs to the unique Scotch whiskies within”. A Song of Ice is inspired by the direwolf, used as a sigil for the House of Stark. Containing single malt whisky from Clynelish Distillery the blend is described as having “a crisp, clean taste with a green and grassy flavor and notes of vanilla and tropical fruit”.
Nose: fruity and grassy, vanilla, caramel, popcorn, coconut cookies, hints of orange peel and mango, hay and wax.
Palate: waxy and grainy, sweet cereals, vanilla, honey, caramel, lemon grass and delicate citrusy and oaky notes.
Finish: not too long, with notes of vanilla, citrus and oak.
