Product description
Sheep Dip Pure Malt debuted in 1974 and was a whisky blended for MJ Dowdeswell, a Gloucestershire farmer and pub owner.
Sheep Dip is also the name of a solution for sheep parasites, and local farmers reportedly used the whisky receipts to pay their taxes. The original formula listed 16 single malts from Speyside and the Highlands aged for at least 8 years. The brand has changed hands several times, and has been owned by Ian Macleod Distillers since 2016. The Sheep Dip presented here is a blend of twelve single malts aged primarily in ex-bourbon casks (first and refills), with a small addition of sherry casks, for at least five years and bottled at 40% abv.
Aroma: barley malt, vanilla, honey, toffee, sweet bread, apples, pears, notes of hay and oak shavings.
Taste: slightly alcoholic, sweet breakfast cereals, caramel, vanilla, golden syrup, a pinch of salt and pepper and a trace of oak.
Finish: not too long, with notes of breakfast cereal, brown sugar, vanilla, traces of fruit and oak.
