Product description
Fèis Ìle (Islay Festival of Whisky and Music) is an annual event organised by the island's residents since 1986.
It promotes Islay, its culture and historical heritage. Each of the local distilleries participates in this event, usually honoring it with a special edition of whisky. In addition to the distilleries, independent whisky publishers also take an active part. Douglas Laing & Co. offers a special version of the popular blended malt Big Peat, made exclusively from malts produced on the island. The Smokehouse Edition presented here is Douglas Laing & Co.'s proposal for Fèis Ìle 2023. This time, the label does not mention the ingredients (the original formula was dominated by Ardbeg, Bowmore, Port Ellen and Caol Ila), and a significant part of the blend was finished in red wine casks.
Nose: fruity and smoky, red apples, raspberries, blackberries, orange peel, smoked meats, vanilla, a pinch of pepper, forest floor and a hint of salty breeze.
Palate : peat smoke, sea breeze, iodine, cherries, cranberries for meat, red currant jam, vanilla, salted caramel, black pepper, notes of licorice and leather.
Finish : quite long, with notes of peat smoke, red berries, smoked meat, sea salt, black pepper and oak.
