Product description
Caisteal Chamuis is a new offering from Mossburn Distillers & Blenders, a subsidiary of the Dutch group Marussia Beverages BV, founded in 2013.
It owns the Torabhaig Distillery on the Isle of Skye (distilling since January 2017) and is the publisher of the whisky. The name of the whisky refers to the ruins of Knock Castle, which lie nearby Torabhaig (the Gaelic name Caisteal Chamuis supposedly means “old keep”). The Caisteal Chamuis presented here is a blend of single malts aged in American oak hogsheads for 12 years and finished in Oloroso sherry casks. The components come from distilleries based on the Scottish islands, but the company does not disclose details.
Nose : peat smoke, forest floor, red berries, orange peel, roasted chestnuts, honey, milk chocolate, a hint of vanilla and a hint of salty breeze.
Palate : slightly oily, raisins, cherries, plums, vanilla, salted caramel, marzipan, milk chocolate, white pepper and peat smoke in the background.
Finish : medium long, with notes of dried fruit, chocolate biscuits, salted caramel, licorice, oak and peat.
