- The Rock Island brand was launched in the late 2018 as part of Douglas Laing’s Remarkable Regional Malts.
Product description
Rock Island debuted in the fall of 2018 in the distinguished series from Douglas Laing & Co.
Remarkable Regional Malts replaces the previous representative of the Scottish islands, Rock Oyster (allegedly some consumers were put off by the word "oyster" in the name). Rock Island is a blend of single malts from the islands of Islay, Arran, Jura and Orkney. Other regions are represented by Timorous Beastie (Highlands), Scallywag (Speyside), Big Peat (Islay), The Epicurean (Lowlands) and The Gauldrons (Campbeltown). The latest offering from Rock Island (March 2023) is the Sherry Edition presented here, a whisky aged mainly in Oloroso sherry casks for at least 14 years.
Nose: sea breeze, wet sand and shells, grilled meat, a drop of barbecue sauce, caramel, honey, red grapes, plums, white pepper, nut shells and peat smoke in the background.
Palate : brown sugar, salted peanuts, ham baked in maple syrup, prunes, blood oranges, nutmeg, a bit of vinaigrette, oak and peat.
Finish : medium long, with notes of honey, caramel, dried dark fruits, chocolate with salt, pepper, peat smoke and ash.
