Product description
Cantina Andrian, the oldest cooperative of wine makers in South Tyrol, was founded in 1893. With 70 hectares of vineyards the company cultivates an array of grapes, mainly Pinot Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Merlot and Pinot Noir. The vineyards are sitting at 260-340 meters above sea level and are unique to the area because they are protected to the west by Mount Gantkofel, made of calcareous stone. Lagrein is an ancient grape variety that finds its home in the sunny vineyards of Trentino-Alto Adige in northern Italy. The grape is most probably native to the region and is thought to take its name from the town of Val Lagarina in Trentino. It has been mentioned in texts as early as the 16th Century. DNA testing has suggested Teroldego as a possible parent. Lagrein wines are known for the deep, dense color and strong plum and wild cherry flavors.
Andrian Rubeno Lagrein is produced from grapes cultivated at 250 meters above sea level around Gries and aged in big oak barrels for six months.
It offers intensive fruity bouquet, wild berries, cherries and plums with hints of leather, licorice and mild oak tannins. It makes perfect pairing with venison, pork chops with fennel and pasta dishes with white meat.
Recommended serving temperature 18ºC. Aging ability 5 to 6 years.
