Murray McDavid owned Bruichladdich Distillery from 2000 to 2012, during which time dozens of pioneering editions of this single malt were released.
The Cuvee First Growth Series debuted in 2008 and offered six 16-year-old whiskies finished for several months in barrels from the most distinguished wines from the Bordeaux region. Bruichladdich Cuvée D, after a basic maturation period in bourbon barrels, went to barrels from the famous Château Haut-Brion (Pessac-Léognan region; Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot grapes). The edition consisted of 12 thousand bottles.
Aroma: fruity and spicy, earthy breath, red currants, blackberries, plums, hazelnuts, cocoa powder, black pepper, toffee, notes of tobacco and leather.
Palate : wine, blackberries, currants, pomegranates, bitter orange jam, salted almonds, dark chocolate, caramel, a touch of pepper and toasted oak.
Finish: medium long, sweet and spicy, with notes of ripe red berries, almonds, cocoa, pepper and toasted oak.
