Product description
St. Magdalene Distillery (also known as Linlithgow) was founded in the late 1700s. The adjacent site was home to Bonnytoun Distillery, acquired by the St. Magdalene owners in 1798.
In the late 19th Century St. Magdalene was modern and efficient distillery capable of producing 1.3 million liters of spirit per annum. The distillery ceased operations in 1983 due to whisky overproduction and most of its buildings were converted into apartments.
St Magdalene/Linlithgow bottlings are extremely rare, thus sought after by collectors. The 2009 release from Berry Bros. & Rudd, part of the Berry’s Own Selection range, comprises whisky distilled in 1982, when the distillery future was sealed, and aged for over a quarter of a century in refill cask no. 2222.
Berry Bros. & Rudd are renowned wine merchants with roots going back to 1698. Its association with whisky started in 1923 with the creation of Cutty Sark Blended Whisky. Berry Bros. & Rudd pioneered the vintage concept of Glenrothes single malt as well.
