Glenallachie Distillery was built in 1968 and for the next 50 years remained rather unknown Speyside distillery supplying malt whisky for Pernod Ricard blends.
Things changed in the summer of 2017 when Billy Walker (of BenRiach and GlenDronach fame) along with his two partners acquired it. Glenallachie is equipped with two pairs of stills and is capable of producing 4 million liters of spirit per annum. Mr. Walker is going to use about 20% of its capacity, at least for now, and about a quarter of new make will be distilled from peated malt. GlenAllachie presented here was distilled on October 25, 2011 and matured in ex-Ruby Port pipe # 7445 for over 11 years. The whisky was bottled at natural strength of 58.2% abv and without chill-filtration in July 2023 as part of Batch # 6 Single Cask Selection for Europe. The cask produced 797 bottles.
Nose: heather honey, toffee, cocoa powder, raisins and sultanas, black cherries, blackberries, cinnamon, clove, and a dash of ginger.
Palate: black currants, plums, black cherries, raspberry preserve, raisins, dark chocolate, coffee, honey, allspice, candied ginger and oak.
Finish: fairly long, with notes of chocolate, honey, red berries, cinnamon, ginger and toasted oak.
