Product description
Henry McKenna came to America from Ireland in the late 1830s. About 20 years later, he began distilling whiskey with his countryman Patrick Sweeney.
Its success allowed a new distillery to be built in 1883, and soon McKenna whiskey was available throughout most of the country. Nelson County records from the turn of the century state that the McKennas were the only producers in Kentucky who refused to sell their whiskey unless it had been aged for at least three years. The distillery closed shortly before Prohibition, reopened in 1934, but was purchased by Seagram a few years later and lasted only until 1943. Since 1976, Henry McKenna bourbon has been produced at Heaven Hill Distillery, sharing the same formula (75% corn, 13% rye, 12% malted barley) as a dozen or so others in its portfolio.
