Product description
Pickering's Gin, the creation of two friends and business partners, Matt Gammell and Marcus Pickering, debuted in 2013.
It is produced at Summerhall Distillery in Edinburgh, the first gin distillery to open in the city for over 150 years. The distillery is housed in the former veterinary hospital building of the University of Edinburgh's Veterinary School. Pickering's Gin is based on a 1947 formula given to Marcus by a friend of his father, containing nine botanicals: juniper berries, coriander, cardamom, angelica root, fennel, anise, cloves, lemon and lime. These are macerated for 24 hours in grain alcohol and then distilled in a copper still. In 2014, Pickering's became an official sponsor of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, and the Navy Strength version presented here was launched to mark the occasion. Its formula is identical to the standard version, but the alcohol content has been increased to 57.1% abv.
Pickering's Navy Strength is a powerful gin with strong notes of juniper and pine needles, along with anise, cardamom, licorice and a touch of lemon zesty. We recommend serving it with a classic Schweppes tonic with a wedge of lime and in a Navy Negroni.
