Old Hunter’s Rye is a unique Czech spirit with the history dating back to the early 16th Century. Palírna u Zeleného Stromu (Green Tree Distillery) was established in 1518 and remains Europe’s oldest operating distillery.
Old Hunter’s Rye is offered in two expressions – 4 years old Reserve and 7 years old Selection. Little is known about Old Hunter’s Reserve formula; it’s maturation process takes place in the distillery cellar, five meters underground under watchful eye of Blend master Roman Petruš then the whisky is cut to the bottling proof of 40% abv. Old Hunter’s Selection 7 years old was a winner of the 2020 World Whisky Masters.
Nose: pretty spicy, freshly baked rye bread, allspice, dried dill, caraway, white pepper, caramel, traces of pine needles and oak.
Palate: sweet and spicy, rye bread, salted caramel, baked apples, allspice, cumin, aniseed, pepper, dash of cinnamon and oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of rye bread, caramel, lemon peel, pepper, allspice and oak.
