Product description
Old Potrero, distilled from 100% malted rye, is the offering of Fritz Maytag, owner of the Anchor brewery and microdistillery in San Francisco.
It debuted in 1996 as a 13-month-old Single Malt Rye Whiskey. The 18th Century Style Rye presented here is an attempt to recreate the profile of whiskey from the late 18th century. At that time, coopers used hot pieces of wood to heat and shape staves, and the heat from them roasted the interior of the barrel without burning it. 18th Century Rye is aged for 2.5 to 3 years in unfired, toasted barrels and bottled at natural alcohol content. Of course, none of us today can verify its aromatic and flavor profile, but this unique whiskey remains a class of its own.
Nose: strong herbal tones, oregano, coriander, hay, rye bread toast, toffee, caramel, cinnamon, cloves, oak chips and mint leaf.
Taste: strong rye and herbal notes, coriander, cumin, cinnamon, cloves, pepper, licorice, a hint of anise and delicate citrus notes.
Finish : quite long, a perfect extension of the flavor palette with a hint of fresh oak.
