Laphroaig 15-year-old (Bottled 1990s/2000s) Allied Domecq Board 2000 / 43% / 0.7l
- The 15 years old expression was part of the core range since the 1980 and it was usually described as mellower version of Laphroaig 10 years old. In 2009 it was replaced with 18 years old but returned in 2015 as a limited bicentenary edition.
Product description
The Laphroaig Distillery was built in 1815 by brothers Alexander and Donald Johnston. Until 1954, the distillery remained in the ownership of the founding family (Johnston/Hunter). The last of the family, Ian Hunter, doubled its production capacity and significantly increased whisky exports. Currently, Laphroaig Distillery is part of the Beam Suntory group and, equipped with seven stills, produces around 3.3 million liters of distillate annually. Laphroaig 15 years old was already available in the 1980s and was considered the "tamed" sister of the 10-year-old. It remained in the offer until 2009, when it was replaced by the 18-year-old version. It returned to the market in 2015 to celebrate the distillery's 200th anniversary. The bottle presented here comes from the years 1989-2005, when the distillery belonged to the Allied Domecq group.
