Fred Laing’s Old Particular series debuted in September 2013, shortly after the division of the assets of Douglas Laing & Co. between the two Laing brothers.
It is the equivalent of the Old Malt Cask range, which is owned by the newly formed Hunter Laing & Co and chaired by Stewart. Old Particular comprises single malt and single grain whiskies bottled in single cask. The Arran 21 year old on display here was distilled in July 1996 and aged in refill cask no. DL 12357 for over two decades. Bottled in February 2018 at cask strength (52% abv) and without chill filtration, in an edition limited to 544 bottles.
Nose: ripe apples, bananas, orange peel, vanilla cream, honey, toffee, buttered toast, salted nuts, traces of hay and oak.
Palate : vanilla, salted caramel, milkshake, orange, apple, pear, quince jelly, sea salt, white pepper, lemongrass and oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of vanilla, brown sugar, baked apples, white pepper, a touch of cinnamon and oak.
