- Dallas Dhu, founded 1898, ceased operations in 1983 and just five years later opened for public as whisky museum.
Product description
Founded in 1898, Dallas Dhu Distillery last distilled in 1983, and five years later welcomed guests to its new role as a whisky museum.
The property is owned by Historic Scotland, a Scottish government-backed distillery. The distillery museum is still fully equipped and in 2013 Historic Scotland commissioned a consulting firm to look into the possibility of resuming production, but no final decision was made. Single malt Dallas Dhu was offered by Gordon & MacPhail in the Distillery Labels series for many years, but disappeared after stocks were exhausted. The whisky presented here was distilled in 1982 and aged in oak barrels for around 28 years.
Aroma: barley malt, breakfast cereals, toasted bread crust, apples, pears, orange peel, vanilla, white pepper, traces of wax and oak.
Palate: sweet, vanilla, honey, milkshakes, pear drops, grapefruit, oatmeal cookies, pepper, a bit of lemongrass and a light bitterness of oak.
Finish: medium long, initial sweetness soon replaced by bitter nutty and oak notes.
