Product description
West Cork Distillers Co. was founded in 2003 by John O'Connell and Dennis and Ger McCarthy. After ten years the distillery moved to Skibbereen where it operates to this day distilling malt and grain whisky.
Blends are also made on site. The Glengarriff series debuted in late 2017 with two editions – Bog Oak Charred Cask and Peat Charred Cask. The Peat Charred Cask presented here was aged in sherry casks, then finished for 6 months in barrels fired with peat from a peat bog adjacent to Glengarriff Forest in southern Ireland. The company uses a patented device specially designed for this purpose by a local blacksmith during the firing process.
Aroma: fruity and slightly peaty, apples, oranges, bananas, freshly cut grass, a pinch of cinnamon, traces of garden herbs and peat.
Taste : smoky malt, ripe pears, quince jelly, candy, a handful of herbs from the garden, a pinch of pepper and a light bitterness of oak.
Finish : medium long, with notes of pepper, charred oak, dark chocolate and a distant whiff of peat smoke.
