Product description
New Southern Revival Rye is a rye whiskey from the portfolio of High Wire Distilling Company, based in Charleston, South Carolina. The company is owned by Scott Blackwell and his wife Anna Marshall and has been operating since 2013.
High Wire produces bourbon, sorghum and rye whiskey, gin and vodka. The New Southern Revival Rye featured here is distilled from a mash of 75% Abruzzi rye (malted and unmalted), 20% white corn and 5% malted barley. The Abruzzi rye comes from Italy and has a fairly strong nutty flavor; it has long been grown in North and South Carolina. The whiskey is distilled once in a hybrid still and aged for 12 months in 15-gallon American oak barrels, then finished in 59-gallon barrels.
Nose : caramel, espresso, cocoa powder, roasted nuts, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, traces of leather and smoke.
Taste: quite spicy, cinnamon, cloves, white pepper, dried dill, orange peel, honey-roasted nuts and a bit of oak.
Finish : medium long, nutty and spicy, with notes of honey, baked apples and a faint trace of smoke.
