Smokin’ – The Gentleman’s Dram was launched in February 2013 by Duncan Taylor, the company founded in 1938 and originally acted as whisky cask broker and trading company.
In the early 21st Century Duncan Taylor was acquired by Euan Shand and started developing its own whisky range. Smokin’ described as modern blend was created using peaty malts from throughout Scotland, no longer bound by regional definitions, coming mostly from Scottish mainland. Soon after release Smokin’ scored Double Gold Medal at the 2014 San Francisco Wine & Spirits Competition.
Nose: lots of smoke, vanilla, caramel, pepper, barbecue sauce, touch of honey, overdone toast and hints of oak.
Palate: sweet and smoky, barbecue sauce, black pepper, licorice, caramel, honey, hints of vanilla and salted butter.
Finish: medium long, with notes of barbecue sauce, burnt sugar, pepper and peat smoke.
