In 2016 Kavalan Distillery celebrated not only its 10th Anniversary but also finishing an expansion, which made it one of the ten largest malt whisky distilleries in the world.
Kavalan is currently equipped with ten pairs of stills and can produce close to 10 million liters of spirit per annum. The Solist range featuring single cask whiskies aged in various types of wood was launched in the late 2009 and it has been the most successful range from the distillery. The Solist Vinho Barrique is aged in re-toasted American oak barrels, which previously held both red and white wines. The whisky presented here comes from cask no. W 121225125A and was bottled at natural strength of 57.1% abv. The cask yielded 211 bottles.
Nose: rich, figs, plums, strawberry preserve, raisins, toffee, pralines, vanilla, cappuccino, hints of cloves and cinnamon.
Palate: raisins, plums, black cherries, tangerines, dried figs and dates, vanilla, honey, cocoa powder, cloves and touch of tobacco.
Finish: medium long, with notes of black cherries, raisins, dark chocolate, cloves and oak.
