Glen Ord Distillery, based at Muir of Ord in the northern Highlands, has been producing whisky since 1838. The distillery is now owned by Diageo and its most recent expansion, completed in 2015, increased its distilling capacity to 11 million litres per year.
Since 2006, Glen Ord, Dufftown and Glendullan single malts have formed The Singleton brand, and are becoming less and less common in independent distributors. Glen Ord 16 years old is a proposal from Signatory in the renowned Cask Strength Collection. Hogshead cask no. 800093 was filled on 30 April 1997, and its contents on 20 November 2013 translated into 267 bottles of cask strength whisky (60.8% abv).
Aroma: lots of barley malt, crisp biscuits, a bouquet of dry flowers, apples, grapes, peaches, a bit of marzipan and vanilla and a trace of mint.
Taste: quite rich, breakfast cereals with honey, toffee, apple pie, peaches, roasted almonds, milk chocolate and a pinch of pepper.
Finish: quite long, with strong notes of malt and honey, a bit of pepper and salt.
