Tomatin Distillery was founded in 1897. It was a small outfit, equipped with a single pair of stills. From the late 1950s to mid 1970s Tomatin expanded to 23 stills and became the largest malt distillery in Scotland, in 1985 it went bankrupt. Currently Tomatin is a mid-size operation in hands of the Japanese Company Takara Shuzo. Tomatin 18 years old was launched in 2006 and ten years later got new look. The whisky is finished in ex-Oloroso sherry casks for over two years after being aged in ex-bourbon casks. In 2014 Tomatin 18 years old scored gold medal at the International Wine & Spirits competition.
