Cask Islay is a single malt whisky bottled in small batches by AD Rattray Ltd.
It debuted in 2014 in the Cask Collection series, and three years later won a gold medal at the World Spirits Competition in San Francisco. The producer does not reveal which distillery on the Islay the whisky comes from, we only know that it is a blend of distillates aged in bourbon and sherry casks, bottled without an age statement. AD Rattray Ltd. recently celebrated its 150th anniversary. The company was founded in 1868 by Andrew Dewar Rattray, and is currently headed by Stanley Walker Morrison, son of the former owner of the Bowmore, Auchentoshan and Glen Garioch distilleries, Stanley P. Morrison.
Aroma: hospital smoke, seaweed, candied lemon and orange peel, black pepper and a hint of sea breeze.
Palate: barley malt, peat smoke, seaweed salad, salted peanuts, black pepper, lemongrass, toffee, green apples and a little oak.
Finish : medium long, smoky and peppery, with notes of green apples, orange peel and sea breeze.
