The second edition of The Gauldrons from Douglas Laing & Co.

The Campbeltown region boasts only three distilleries, but in a popularity ranking it would certainly be at the top, and if a desirability scale were developed for whisky, most Springbank editions would aim for maximum points on it. However, there is no need to refer to the after all iconic brand from this smallest whisky producing region in Scotland. Both the other two whiskies produced at the Springbank distillery, namely Longrow and Hazelburn, as well as Kilkerran from sister distillery Glengyle, and Glen Scotia products are taking the hearts and palates of a growing number of Scotch whisky lovers by storm.

There was a period in Campbeltown's history when it was in danger of disappearing completely from the map of Scotch whisky-producing regions. In a reflex, as it were, to save the region, the Springbank distillery, on whose shoulders it then rested to represent Campbeltown, launched production of the triple-distilled Hazelburn in 1997. As a result, despite the operation of only one distillery, as many as three whisky brands - Springbank, Longrow and Hazelburn - came from the Campbeltown region. The situation changed with the stabilization of Glen Scotia and the reactivation of Glengyle, which has been closed for years.

Today there is official talk of plans to build two more distilleries, Dál Riata and Machrihanish. Unofficially - about at least one more. So it seems that the future of Campbeltown as a Scotch whisky-producing region is unthreatened for at least a few decades.

In the wave of popularity of Campbeltown whisky, one certainly can't help but notice another offering coming from independent bottling company Douglas Laing & Co. The second edition has just been released The Gauldrons Sherry Cask Finish - Batch #002, blended malt whisky, compiled from single casks of Campbeltown single malts, a beverage with a strength of 50% vol., without cold filtration and without caramel coloring.

The post The Gauldrons brand appeared first on Douglas Laing & Co. in 2017. The just debuted second edition of Sherry Cask Finish is a total of 5580 bottles, each costing £65.

The Gauldrons Sherry Cask Finish - Bach #002 in aroma offers notes of sea air, hanuka honey and macerated fruit. In the taste we can expect accents of dark fruits and warming spices.

Douglas Laing & Co. Ltd. was formed after the two Laing brothers parted ways and split the assets of the original family business in 2013. Douglas Laing & Co. is the company to which we owe the Premier Barrel series of single malt whiskies, offered in distinctive ceramic bottles, the classic Old Particular, or the legendary XOP, Extra Old Particular. In recent years, in the slightly more budget-oriented section, Douglas Laing has made a positive name for itself with editions of blended malt whiskies in the Remarkable Regional Malts series, which includes Rock Island, Timorous Beastie, The Epicurean, and finally The Gauldrons.

The second brother founded the company Hunter Laing & Co. Ltd., and is m.in. the owner of what is now the youngest distillery on Islay, Ardnahoe. To him we also owe the hugely acclaimed whisky series The Kinship.

The House of Whisky Online offers an interesting selection of whiskeys bottled by both Laing brothers' companies, from relatively inexpensive Rock Island blended malts to unique editions of old single malt whiskies, bottled as part of the XOP series by Douglas Laing & Co. We invite you to visit.
