One of the very few Lowland distilleries until recently, Auchentoshan still triple distills its whisky.

Whisky made at Auchroisk used to be sold as Singleton of Auchroisk. It was the pioneer of the wood finishing technique, though it was never marketed as such. A lost marketing opportunity for Diageo, it seems.

Aultmore is one of the very few distilleries in Scotland that have hardly changed owners almost since the foundation. Taken over from its founders in the early 20th century, it has remained a part of John Dewar & Sons until this day.

Over time, Balblair has in fact been two distilleries - the first one erected as early as the 18th century. Its successor was founded just over a century later.

A beautifully situated distillery, operating in ancient, listed steadings within the Ballindalloch estate. A place unhurried to release their first single malt. It will be launched when it reaches good enough quality.

One of the lesser known Speyside distilleries. Used to be bottled in the Flora & Fauna range, which allowed it to get known at least a bit. Nowadays it has got its official bottlings and the awareness of Balmenach in whisky punters is growing.

Sister distillery of the much more prominent Glenfiddich, named after a nearby medieval castle ruin.

It survived fires, air raids and bankruptcies. Didn't make it through the period of lower demand in the 1980s.

Climbing the top of Ben Nevis is a serious challenge to anyone not accustomed to the efforts. Entering Ben Nevis, the distillery named after the tallest Scottish mountain, seems to be a suitable alternative.
