New editions from Glasgow Distillery

Launched in 2015, the Glasgow distillery has just released two new editions of whisky. Each is designed to show the possibilities of maturing in barrels that are less typical, or even thoroughly experimental. According to the manufacturer's announcement, the first two limited editions are by no means the last word in this area, so expect more surprises with unusual barrels.
Glasgow 1770 Small Batch Series are whiskies whose maturation began in traditional bourbon barrels, but both have been poured for a little more than the last year into selected barrels that previously held other spirits.
Glasgow 1770 Cognac Cask Finish (56% vol.) is a peaty, smoky whiskey that went into American oak barrels in 2018. For just over the last 12 months it went into cognac barrels. In its bouquet we find notes of smoky barbecue sauce, dark fruits and spices. The edition is limited to 882 bottles, and the price of a single bottle is £59.
Glasgow 1770 Tequila Cask Finish (55% vol.) is a non-peat distillate. It began the maturation process in first-fill bourbon barrels, which it entered in 2018. This whisky spent the last year wrapped in a single tequila barrel. In its bouquet we find accents of honey, fresh apples, pears and tropical fruits. Only 295 bottles were prepared, each costing £59.
It is worth recalling, by the way, that the Glasgow distillery recently abandoned half-liter bottles in favor of more standard 700 ml bottles. What's more, the process of changing the capacity took place without even the slightest change in the price of a single bottle of the whisky on offer. The new limited editions also come in 700 ml bottles.
In keeping with a trend that has been in place for years, the whisky was bottled without the addition of colored caramel and without cold filtering.
The Glasgow Distillery, Glasgow's first Scotch whisky plant for more than a century, produces not only whisky. Makar gin, Banditti Club Spiced Rum, Malt Riot blended whiskey, and G52 botanical vodka are also produced here. The name of the 1770 malt whisky refers to the year of the founding of the first Dundashill distillery, which ceased operations in the early 20th century. The distillery operates four alembics for making whisky and one for making gin. The distillery's potential maximum capacity is 365,000. liters of pure alcohol per year (whisky only). In 2020, the distillery was honored as Scottish Whisky Distillery of the Year. The distillery produces three types of whisky - The Original,Peated and Triple Distilled. Despite their young age, each of them has been received extremely positively by both recognized authorities in the whisky world and serial consumers.
