Moonshine and Compass Box - Duality times two

Moonshine and Compass Box - Duality times two

Compass Box has been a well-known player on the Scotch whisky scene for years, extremely highly regarded. It is a company with a track record of remarkable achievements, and excellent, often surprising editions of whisky. Bimber Distillery, on the other hand, is a relatively young, unpolished producer. Both companies are united by their London locations, and the people behind them by their passion for innovation and love of good whisky. In fact, one could say that it was a matter of time when the paths of the two would cross, when Bimber and Compass Box would get down to some joint project. Well, and they got down to. And in a remarkable way. Here are two editions of blended whiskies, prepared in cooperation, available from today in the offer of both companies. Two different editions, but with more than one common denominator.

Moonshine Duality (54% vol.) is a blended malt whisky, compiled of peated Moonshine whisky matured in a bourbon cask and Glendullan from a first-fill sherry cask.

Compass Box Duality (52% vol.) is also a blended malt whisky, which included a Pedro Ximénez sherry cask from Bimber Distillery and something else. This thing is a teaspooned Ardbeg cask (i.e. with minimal single malt from another distillery).

So we have two editions, which include whiskey from the Bimber distillery, an intensely peat-smoked component and a component matured in a sherry barrel. Both whiskies were created as a result of a joint search by Matt McKay of Bimber Distillery and James Saxon of Compass Box. Both had at their disposal the Bimber distillery's stock, which was growing every year, and barrels held by Compass Box. Of these, they made a selection of peat and sherry cask components to put together their blended malts.

Moonshine is a whisky produced in England, in West London, so the blends obtained with it cannot be described as Scotch. This is the first time a whisky from this distillery has gone into a blending with whiskies from other distilleries, so this fact, too, makes both Duality editions groundbreaking for the London-based producer.

Both limited editions go on sale today, July 4, 2023. Moonshine has prepared 340 bottles of its whiskey, while we can expect 1050 bottles from Compass Box. Retail prices have been set at - respectively - £120 and £180.

Bimber Distillery is a venture with Polish roots, it was founded by our compatriot Dariusz Plazewski. The London-based whisky maker is gaining more and more admirers, and its owners are planning the imminent opening of a second distillery, this time in Scotland. Dunphail, as their new venture is called, is located in the Speyside region, near the town of Forres. It is scheduled to open soon.

Compass Box probably does not need a special introduction to anyone. Founded in 2000 by John Glaser, the company debuted with an unusual whisky, Hedonism Blended Grain, and very quickly won the hearts of Scotch whisky enthusiasts. Liquors such as Peat Monster, The Spice Tree, and Great King Street have made their way to the shoulders of whisky lovers around the world for good. The House of Whisky Online offers a wide selection of whiskies from this producer.
