Glenturret's new official offering

The small, extremely picturesque Glenturret distillery is one of the candidates for the title of oldest operating Scotch whisky distillery. It can be found near the village of Crieff, among the trees, on the Barvick Burn stream, in the southern Highlands, a little west of Perth. According to the manufacturer, an illegal distillery named Hosh was operating here as early as 1775, although the license was not obtained until 1818. There are sources that cite 1763 as the date of the start of illegal tempering, and Thurot as the name of the distillery. Whatever the truth about the origins of distilling here, it is undoubtedly one of Scotland's oldest distilleries. Small, even boutique, it charms with the beauty of its buildings and location.

The Glenturret distillery has just announced the release of a new entry-level whisky range, which includes editions aged from 7 to 35 years, plus one with no age declaration. A total of eight new whiskies, compiled from de-aged distillates produced at Glenturret. Their creator is Bob Dalgarno, a person extremely experienced in the world of whisky and composing exclusive editions. Dalgarno joined Glenturret in 2019, following a change of ownership, and previously worked for 30 years at the prestigious Macallan distillery in Speyside. Edradour's new offerings include the following editions:

Glenturret Triple Wood (43% vol.), whisky matured in American oak sherry barrels, European oak barrels, and bourbon barrels. The retail price of a single bottle has been set at £62.

Glenturret 7yo Peat Smoked (46% vol.), a peated whisky matured in American oak barrels seasoned with sherry, and refill casks. Retail price - £62.

Glenturret 10yo Peat Smoked (48.4% vol.), a peated whisky matured in first-fill and second-fill European and American oak casks. Retail price - £67.

Glenturret 12yo (46.4% vol.), whisky matured in American oak hogshead barrels and European oak casks. Retail price - £77.

Glenturret 15yo (50.8% vol.), whisky matured in American oak barrels and a higher than usual percentage in European oak barrels. Retail price - £147.

Glenturret 25yo (42.6% vol.), a whisky matured in a combination of six European and American oak casks. Edition limited to 210 bottles. Retail price - £1,400.

Glenturret 30yo (42.7% vol.), a whisky matured in a combination of European oak barrels, American oak hogsheads and port pipe barrels. Edition limited to 500 bottles. Retail price - 1980 GBP.

Glenturret 35yo (42.8% vol.), whisky matured in a single European oak butt cask. Edition limited to 185 bottles. Retail price - £5,000.

The first five editions are now available in the manufacturer's store and are gradually hitting the shelves of specialty whisky stores. The 25yo, 30yo and 35yo editions will be available for preorder at a later date.

Whisky produced at Glenturret was for many years one of the main ingredients in The Famous Grouse blended whisky, and the distillery itself housed a kind of museum, called The Famous Grouse Experience. The situation changed in 2019, when Glenturret passed from the hands of the Edrington conglomerate, owner of The Famous Grouse, to a consortium that includes m.in. Lalique, maker of prestigious glassware. Today, the distillery still welcomes tourists, but any reference to the blended whisky brand, owned by Edrington, has disappeared from the area. Instead, an exquisite restaurant has emerged. The first of its kind at a whisky distillery, boasting a Michelin star.

The House of Whisky Online offers a wide range of whiskies from Glenturret, including editions branded by the current owner, as well as those dating back to the Edrington era, and a number of independent editions. We invite you to visit.
