Coronation Glen Grant from Gordon & MacPhail

In connection with the upcoming coronation of Charles III, which will imminently take place in Westminster Abbey in London, the British memorabilia market has been overflowing with all kinds of memorabilia related to the event. Such has been the tradition cultivated by millions of Britons. Among the commemorative artifacts, you will find countless worthless plastic gadgets, but if you search well, you can find real gems. For example, the occasional edition of whisky.
Among these, the latest offering from Gordon & MacPhail clearly comes to the fore, namely another member of the Private Collection series in the form of Glen Grant 1948.
Gordon & MacPhail Private Collection 1948 from Glen Grant Distillery, as that would be the full name of this liquor, is a whisky distilled April 1948 and matured for 74 years in a first-fill sherry cask. Those lucky enough to taste it, according to the manufacturer, will find notes of spices, berries, raisins, lemon peel, cane sugar and beeswax in its aroma. Its taste is expected to include accents of red apples, bitter oranges, milk chocolate, gentle smoke and fresh peppermint leaves.
Edition described Glen Grant 1948 will go on sale any day in an edition limited to 281 bottles, each of which will cost round £25,000 at retail.
The equivalent of one bottle will also be donated to the charity, The Prince's Foundation, which offers a range of educational and training programs to support local communities.
The ties of Gordon & MacPhail, which we wrote about not long ago on the occasion of the launch of another, slightly younger edition of Glen Grant, has ties with the royal family far beyond the bottling of a single limited edition whisky. Last year, the company helped celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee by also releasing a limited edition Mortlach 1952 70yo, also as part of its Private Collection series. When the official opening of the Gordon & MacPhail-owned Benromach distillery took place in 1998, the guest of honor was the then Prince of Wales Charles. The same one who is to be crowned king any day now.
The Glen Grant distillery, located in the small village of Rothes in the Speyside region, has made a name for itself with a number of vintage editions, many of which have come from the stock of just Gordon & MacPhail. The cooperation between the two companies goes back to ancient times, with the oldest vintages of Glen Grant bottled by Gordon & MacPhail dating back to the 1930s. The company was founded in the 1960s, and among the real gems are, for example, decades-old whiskies released as part of the legendary Book of Kells series and a whole range of vintage whiskies.
The House of Whisky Online has a range of editions on offer whisky from Glen Grant distillery, including collectible, vintage copies bottled by Gordon & MacPhail. We invite you to visit.
