Benromach 40yo for the second time

Benromach has just announced the release of a 40-year-old single malt whisky from the distillery's warehouses. This is the second edition and is a continuation of a series of aged single malt whiskies started less than a year ago from this small distillery in Speyside.

Benromach 40yo 2022 Release is a whisky that was matured for four decades in sherry casks and bottled as a cask strength, which in this case was 57.6% vol. Cold filtering and caramel coloring have been discontinued. According to the manufacturer, this whisky offers notes of cinnamon, ginger, Seville oranges, compote red berries and roasted hazelnuts in its aroma. On the palate we can expect accents of cherries, baked apples, licorice, dark chocolate, fruitcake and black pepper.

The whisky has been prepared in an edition limited to 1,132 bottles, and the purchase of one of them will represent an expenditure of £2,000.

The first edition of Benromach 40yo was released in August 2021.

Benromach is a small distillery, founded in 1898, riding the wave of increased interest in Scotch whisky of the late 19th century. Whisky production began here in 1900, almost exactly when the Scottish distilling industry was shaken by the crisis that began with the crash of the Pattison brothers' empire. Its subsequent history was closely linked to the changing fortunes of the industry as a whole - a world crisis, two wars, Prohibition in the U.S. - and this meant relatively numerous periods of downtime. The final, seemingly final blow was dealt to Benromach by the overproduction crisis of the early 1980s. In the 1970s. In 1983 Benromach shared the fate of many other Scotch whisky factories and closed down. It took a full 10 years before fortunes turned around, prosperity began to return, and one of the oldest and largest independent whisky distributors, Gordon & MacPhail of Elgin, became interested in buying Benromach. It turned out, however, that on the main road leading from Elgin to Inverness, in the small village of Forres, stand the empty buildings of a former distillery, cleared of all distilling equipment. Another 5 years passed before distillate again flowed from the newly installed alembics at Benromach.

The House of Whisky Online offers an interesting collection of whiskeys from Benromach, including extremely rare and valuable vintage collector's specimens. We invite you to visit.
