200 years of Springbank distillery

Springbank, the most important distillery in the Campbeltown region, is repeatedly cited as the one that should serve as a model for other Scotch malt whisky producers. Since its inception, independent, in the hands of the same family. The whisky produced there is invariably rated extremely highly, and some historic editions are absolute legends. He malts the barley himself, locally grown as much as possible, and the entire production process here respects traditional methods and techniques. It is one of the few distilleries in Scotland today where you won't find a central computer station from which the entire production process is controlled. Springbank conducts its own whisky bottling, thus maintaining control over the entire production process. What's more, long before it became fashionable, the whisky at Springbank was not subjected to cold-filtering, and the slight differences in color between batches did not prompt the owners to use colored caramel.
If that weren't enough of the above, the Springbank distillery shouldered the burden of maintaining all of Campbeltown as a whisky-producing region for some time on its shoulders. Between 1984 and 1989, when Glen Scotia was closed, the closure of Springbank would have spelled the end of the entire region. It would also mean the disappearance of as many as three whiskey brands from the market, since that is how many different liquors are produced in Springbank. Springbank's flagship is a beverage created from lightly smoked malt, distilled 2.5 times, and accounts for 80% of the plant's total production. Strongly peated Longrow, distilled 2 times, is 10% of the production, and the remaining 10% goes to Hazelburn, a whisky made on a non-peated malt base, distilled 3 times.
So, as befits such a distinguished and respected distillery, the celebration of its bicentennial was planned with appropriate panache, and it began a few years before the anniversary year.
Springbank was founded in 1828 by the Reid family, a scion of the Mitchells, who still run the distillery today. Simple calculus indicates that their bicentennial anniversary is only five years away. However, the distillery is already launching a countdown of sorts today. For admirers of this iconic distillery, a Countdown Collection has been prepared, the first part of which you can try to get soon. Unique editions of the whisky will be released as part of the series, one every year, and the number of bottles in each edition will be limited to 500. A whole series of events and surprises have also been prepared, the details of which have not yet been disclosed, to honor this remarkable round anniversary.
The first whisky in the Countdown Collection series is the Springbank 27yo, whisky with a strength of 47.1% vol., bottled according to Springbank custom without cold filtration and without caramel coloring. To become the owner of one of the 500 bottles, you must declare your willingness to buy and... be very lucky during the drawing, as all bottles will be sold only in this way. Only one entry per person is allowed, and winners of the drawing will be notified of the result by email. Unfortunately, Poland is not among the countries to which Springbank undertakes to ship purchased bottles. However, we were left with the option of picking up the whisky in person at the distillery. Each bottle will come with a named certificate of authenticity, as well as a coupon that will participate in a drawing for prizes and attractions prepared by Springbank as part of the celebration, which will be announced in due course.
Price of each of the 500 bottles Springbank 27yo Countdown Collection is £2,500.
In the current offer of the House of Whisky Online you can find a wide selection of whisky from Springbank distillery. It's worth checking in with us if you run out of luck in the Springbank 27yo Countdown Collection drawing. And even if you're lucky, it's also worth it. Please visit.
