Product description
Plymouth is one of the oldest British gins; it has officially been produced since 1793 at the Black Friars Distillery (also known as the Plymouth Gin Distillery), although records indicate that distillation there dates back much further.
The distillery building was most likely also a meeting place for the Pilgrim Fathers before their voyage to America on the Mayflower (the gin label features an image of this sailing ship). Plymouth Gin was very popular in the first half of the 20th century, after which it slowly disappeared from the market. Its current owner, Pernod Ricard, brought the brand back into favour – over the course of a decade (2006-2016), it won many significant awards and medals, including four double gold and four gold medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. The Plymouth gin formula contains seven botanicals: juniper berries, coriander seeds, cardamom, orris and angelica roots, and lemon and orange peel, and the relatively high content of spices gives the gin a characteristic profile. One of the great fans of Plymouth gin was Winston Churchill. In 2018, Plymouth Gin Navy Strength won a gold medal at the World Spirits Competition in San Francisco.
Plymouth Gin Navy Strength is a drink with an intense aromatic bouquet, full of juniper, coriander and cardamom and a hint of citrus zesty. In taste similar, a lot of juniper and orange zesty, cardamom and a trace of lavender. We recommend serving it with Schweppes tonic and a piece of lime or in Martini and Negroni cocktails.
