Glenesk Distillery produced whisky at Montrose in the eastern Highlands from 1897 to 1985. It has had five name changes – Highland Esk, North Esk, Montrose, Hillside and Glenesk.
The lion's share of production went into William Sanderson's VAT 69 blend. The 5-year-old single malt presented here was produced in small quantities in the 1970s and 1980s. The batch from which our bottle comes was bottled by William Sanderson & Sons for the Italian importer Buton & Co. based in Bologna.
Aroma : light, malty, green apples, notes of vanilla, caramel and young oak.
Taste: mild, slight malt bitterness, cooked apples, lemongrass, traces of vanilla and oak.
Finish: quite short, malty with notes of vanilla and oak.
