Product description
The first Glenmorangie whisky to be finished in a wine cask was the now legendary 1963 Vintage Oloroso Sherry Finish.
Since the late 90s, the core range has featured four ‘finishes’, alongside which limited editions have appeared. In 1989, eight barrels of white American oak filled between 1976 and 1979 were selected and their contents were poured into casks from an excellent red Bordeaux, the Pauillac appellation (which includes such giants as Lafite, Mouton and Latour). The Claret Wood Finish was bottled in 1997 and remains one of Glenmorangie’s most highly rated and sought-after whiskies.
Aroma: fragrant, fruity with a delicate sea breeze, raspberries, plums, bitter oranges, a bit of violets, honey, chocolate, traces of resin and cedar.
Taste: perfectly balanced, dried dates and plums, raspberry mousse, honey, toffee, dark chocolate, raisins, cinnamon, a pinch of pepper and a delicate bitterness of oak.
Finish: long, slightly winey, lots of dried fruit, cedar shavings and subtle peppery notes.
