Bottle No. 1018 / 2400
The Rosebank Distillery commenced operation in 1840, but it is highly probable that whisky was being produced there as early as 1773.
The distillery had three stills and used a triple distillation method, and many connoisseurs considered the whisky of the Lowlands to be the calling card of the region. To their dismay, Rosebank suspended production in 1993 and never resumed. Since 2002, the property has been owned by British Waterways, which has converted most of the premises into bars and offices. The 15-year-old edition presented here dates from the 1970s and was intended for the Italian importer Zenith-Italia. It consisted of 2,400 bottles and the spirit was bottled at cask strength (61% abv).
Aroma : slightly subdued, grassy-herbal, slightly spirit-like, forest floor, grapefruit, lemon jam, apples, wax, damp hay and a trace of shoe polish.
Palate: herbal and slightly oily, lemongrass, bitter orange jam, grapefruit, peanut butter, candied lemon peel, barley malt and lots of oak.
Finish: long and deep, lemons, grapefruits, hay and a pleasant oak bitterness.
