Product description
Bowmore Distillery began operations in 1779, making it the oldest distillery on the Isle of Islay.
In 1790, the parish priest wrote that “the island enjoys the privilege of distilling whisky without having to pay tax on the business to the government” – a privilege for which today’s distillers would probably not be stingy with the parish’s offering. Bowmore’s international success is linked to its acquisition by Stanley P. Morrison (later Morrison Bowmore Distilleries) in 1963. Bowmore is one of a handful of Scottish distilleries that malt their own barley, although its own malt covers about 40% of its requirements. The malt typically has a phenol content of 25 ppm (parts per million), and the distillery, equipped with two pairs of stills, produces about 2 million litres of alcohol per year.
The set presented here consists of three 50ml bottles, 12, 15 and 18 year old Bowmore, which provide an excellent opportunity to taste the basic versions of this single malt in parallel .
