Product description
Nikka Distilling Company is the second (after Suntory) tycoon in the alcoholic beverage market in Japan.
It has two distilleries in Japan, Yoichi and Miyagikyo, and one in Scotland, Ben Nevis. In 1963, Nikka purchased Coffey-designed distillation columns in Scotland and a year later, in October 1964, began distilling grain whisky at the Nishinomiya distillery for use in its own blends. In 1999, it was decided to move the columns to Miyagikyo's sister plant and parallel distillation in alembics and columns. Nikka Coffey Malt Whisky, the result of the company's constant experimentation, debuted in 2013. Although it is 100% distilled from barley malt, it cannot be classified as a single malt whiskey because it uses a distillation column rather than a copper alembic in its production.
