Product description

Château Pétrus is one of the most legendary and prestigious wine estates in Bordeaux. Its history dates back to the early 18th century, when a modest vineyard in the Pomerol appellation, located on the right bank of the Gironde, began to gain a reputation for the exceptional quality of its wines, which stood out from the powerful, tannic wines of the Médoc. The name Pétrus itself comes from St..Peter—the estate’s coat of arms features his image holding keys, and this symbolism is intended to convey not only his dignity but also the pivotal nature of the terroir.

In the 19th century, Pétrus changed hands several times, but the 20th century proved to be a turning point, thanks to the efforts of the Arnaud family and the remarkable, charismatic Madame Loubat, who was able to recognize and promote the extraordinary potential of the wine from this region. It was she who made Pétrus an icon whose greatness has earned it worldwide fame.Since the 1960s.The legendary oenologist Jean-Claude Berrouet, who for decades was responsible for the style and remarkable balance of Pétrus, oversaw the management and production of the wines.

The Château Pétrus vineyard covers just over 11 hectares—it is a small gem in the mosaic that is Pomerol. It is distinguished by its unique soil: a layer of iron-rich clay, known as “crasse de fer” , which gives the Merlot its remarkable structure, depth, and silky texture. It is Merlot, in its almost pure form (practically 100%), that defines the strength and identity of this wine. You won’t find any Cabernet Sauvignon here—the variety that dominates the Left Bank of Bordeaux—but instead, Pétrus demonstrates just how majestic and powerful Merlot can be when grown under the best conditions.

The 2014 vintage was a challenging one in Bordeaux—a cool summer and rain led to inconsistent yields. However, September and October saved the harvest: sunny and dry weather allowed the fruit to ripen to perfection. In the case of Pétrus, this resulted in an exceptionally elegant wine—more classic and balanced, with a delicate structure and refined freshness.

In the glass, the 2014 Château Pétrus displays a deep ruby color, infused with garnet highlights.Even the aroma conveys depth and dignity—notes of ripe plums, black cherries, and blackberries emerge, along with subtle hints of violets, graphite, cedar, and damp earth.Over time, aromas of truffles, tobacco, and cocoa develop, evoking the nobility of the Pomerol terroir.

Appearance: a deep ruby color with garnet highlights, indicative of the wine’s concentration and youth.

Aroma: an intense bouquet of ripe plums, black cherries, and blackberries, with notes of violets, cedar, truffles, and cocoa.

Taste: velvety and full-bodied, with silky tannins, rich fruitiness, and a long, mineral finish.

Food pairings: delicious with beef tenderloin in truffle sauce, lamb with rosemary, roast duck, and fine cheeses such as Comté or Saint-Nectaire.
