Unfortunately, we can't say exactly when Black Bush debuted. Originally, this whiskey was called Bushmills Liqueur Whiskey, and its rich palette was intended to be a counterbalance to the delicate White Label.
It hit the market with a black label and was immediately dubbed "Black Bush" by consumers, a name that was soon adopted by the producer. Black Bush experienced moderate popularity in the 1960s, but by the end of the century its status was firmly established. The whiskey formula lists around 80% Bushmills malt whiskey, mostly aged in Oloroso sherry casks, and 20% grain whiskey from the Midleton Distillery. The maturation period of the components is on average 7-8 years. In the original recipe, the grain whiskey came from the Coleraine Distillery, which closed in 1978.
Nose: mild sherry notes, barley malt, vanilla, toffee, peanut butter, raisins, milk chocolate, hints of cinnamon and nutmeg.
Taste : slightly oily, honey, toffee, apple pie sprinkled with cinnamon, chocolate milk, peaches, orange peel, allspice, notes of licorice and oak.
Finish : medium long, with notes of milk chocolate, honey, raisins, oak and a touch of spices.
