Paddy whiskey is named after legendary Cork Distillers Company salesman Patrick J. O'Flaherty, whose sales techniques included offering rounds of whiskey to bar and pub customers during routine sales visits.
Over time, their owners began to order "Paddy's whiskey" from the producer. In 1913, the Cork Distillers Company officially registered the "Paddy" brand; since 2016, its owner is the Sazerac Company of New Orleans. The original Paddy was a pure pot still whiskey, now it is a standard blend, a blend of single malt, single pot still and single grain distillates from the Midleton Distillery. In 2019, Paddy recorded sales of 185,200 cases, which gave it fifth place on the list of the most popular Irish whiskeys.
