Larceny bourbon has its origins in the long and colorful history of John E. Fitzgerald and Old Fitzgerald brand.
As the story goes John Fitzgerald built the distillery in Kentucky in the 1870s and sold his bourbon to private clubs. The Old Fitzgerald brand was registered in the 1880s by S.C. Herbst and eventually sold to Julian “Pappy” Van Winkle during prohibition. The truth however is that John Fitzgerald was a bonded treasury agent, who at the time were the only people legally allowed to carry the keys to warehouses. Apparently Mr. Fitzgerald had exquisite palate for bourbon and using his keys “sampled” only the best barrels. Larceny bourbon was introduced in the summer of 2012; it is a wheated bourbon distilled from mash of 75% corn, 20% wheat and 5% malted barley and bottled in small batches.
Nose: cornflakes, maple syrup, toffee, caramel, bread crust, cherries, plums, polished oak and hints of pepper and allspice.
Palate: caramel, vanilla, sweet pastries, popcorn, cherries, candied orange peel, apricots, hints of tobacco and charred oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of milk chocolate, caramel, sweet cereals, touch of leather and oak.
