Product description
Ardbeg is undoubtedly one of the iconic distilleries of the new millennium and it is hard to believe today that in the 1990s it was fighting for survival, and in 1997 it was sold to Glenmorangie plc. for a now laughable £7 million.
Ardbeg is currently the third most popular Islay malt, having sold 1.8 million bottles in 2021, ahead of Lagavulin. Ardbeg’s single cask releases always make our hearts race and this time it does, especially since it was exclusively for MH Private Europe and it is not known how many bottles remain in circulation. Distilled in 2002, the whisky spent over 18 years in a second-fill bourbon cask, no. 3308. Bottled on 28th July 2021 at cask strength (49.6% abv) in an edition of 250 bottles. (Official note from Master Lumsden.)
Colour : light gold.
Nose : A unique bouquet, both creamy and spicy with subtle notes of musk. A drop of water releases more classic Ardbeg notes: menthol, carbolic soap, lime zesty and pine resin, and a touch of sea breeze.
Taste : on the palate, lots of pepper, tar, soot and anise; delicate notes of classic candy, cinnamon and peppermint.
Finish : creamy, with vanilla sweetness tempering the intense peat of Ardbeg.
