Product description
In 2023, Suntory whisky celebrated its 100th birthday.
Built in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii Yamazaki Distillery, it was the first Japanese malt distillery (Yamazaki means "mountain cape"). The original distillery was equipped with one pair of stills, the latest expansion (2013) increased their number to 16, and the production capacity to about 8 million liters of distillate per year. The stills have different shapes and capacities, which allows for the production of distillates with different profiles. Shinjiro, whose mission was to produce local whisky that would appeal to the palette of Japanese consumers, did not foresee that it would not be until the 21st century that it would achieve global triumph. Yamazaki 12 years old debuted in 1984 and was the first Japanese single malt whisky to be promoted using modern marketing mechanisms. The anniversary edition presented here will hit the market in 2023.
