The word Amrut translates from Sanskrit to “elixir of life”, and is also the name of the first Indian single malt. It debuted on August 24, 2004 in Glasgow and is now available on all continents.
Since its debut, this whisky has seen an impressive number of editions, and has also won dozens of medals and awards. The Amrut Peated presented here, distilled in July 2014, spent over six years in a port barrel type pipe no. 2713, and was bottled at 60% abv for La Maison du Whisky in August 2020 in an edition of 516 bottles. Amrut Distilleries Ltd. was founded in 1948 by Shri JN Radhakrishna Jagdale to supply the Ministry of Defence with alcoholic beverages. The company specialises in the production of blended whisky, vodka, gin, brandy and rum, while malt whisky accounts for only 5% of its turnover.
Nose: smoked meats, dried plums and cherries, raisins, blood oranges, caramel, toffee, roasted peanuts, black pepper, a pinch of cinnamon, charred oak and ash.
Palate: slightly oily, smoky, multi-berry jam, orange peel, toffee, honey, dark chocolate, cinnamon, a hint of black pepper and charred oak.
Finish : quite long, with notes of smoke and ash, caramel, plums, red berries, black tea, chocolate, pepper and oak tannins.
