The North British Grain Distillery, an investment of Andrew Usher, William Sanderson and John M. Crabbie dating back to 1885, is based in Edinburgh.
The plant has been expanded several times, and since 1993 it has belonged to Lothian Distillers, a joint venture between Diageo and Edrington Group (50% each), and produces 65 million liters of distillate per year. The basic input grain is corn. An official edition of the local whisky has never been released, the one presented here is one of the last offerings of the Signatory Vintage company. The whisky was distilled on June 23, 2009, spent 13 months in four bourbon barrels (no. 260481-269484), and was bottled at 46% ABV and without chill filtration in February 2023.
Nose : cornflakes, vanilla, brown sugar, bubble gum, apple and grape peels, bread crust, traces of grass and oak shavings.
Palate : sweet, vanilla, caramel, buttered popcorn, fruit candy, cooked apples, cinnamon biscuits, hay and light oak buckwheat.
Finish : medium long, slightly alcoholic, with notes of breakfast cereal, vanilla, cotton candy, hay and oak.
